Retina Enlargement

Close-up view of frog retina detailing the pericilliary ridge complex.

During preparation of this image, some of the ROS (ROS=rod outer segment) were deliberately broken off from the RIS (RIS=rod innner segment). The arrow points to a special structure, the periciliary ridge complex, that exists in the rod cell between the RIS and the ROS.

COS and CIS represent the cone outer segment and cone inner segment respectively.
